Policies for Kentucky Makers and Movers

Welcome to Kentucky Movers and Makers
Policies

  • Consider other members' rights and privileges.
  • Never use equipment that he or she has not been trained on or cleared to use.
  • Always treat members and staff with fullest respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Always accept the fullest responsibility for any damage to equipment due to his or her misuse of the equipment.
  • Never use Kentucky Movers and Makers facilities or equipment to alter the use of, or manufacture weapons of any kind.
  • When leaving an area that you have been working in you must return it to a state that is as it was or better than when you started work. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself each time that you utilize an area. Please don’t leave your mess for others to clean up.
  • Equipment, machines, classroom space and other areas of the makerspace may be reserved from time to time for classes or workshops. Please check the calendar of events to ensure that the equipment you hope to use isn’t reserved for any reason. Reservations for these events will be made a minimum of 1 week in advance. There is a Members only section of the website. You will be given access to this when you become a member of Kentucky Movers and Makers.

The Shop Specific Rules

  • Appropriate eye and ear protection should be worn at all times while in the shop area regardless of whether it is you working on the machinery or not.
  • Never start a conversation with someone that is using a piece of machinery always wait for them to stop and get their attention visually not physically or verbally.
  • No one may use any workshop equipment without being authorized to do so.
  • Never touch or bump anyone that is using a piece of machinery.
  • No pets allowed in any of the shop areas.
  • No wet or green wood materials are to be run through any of the woodshop machines.
  • Replacement costs due to neglect by breaking any of these rules will be the responsibility of the individual who caused the damage.
  • Never attempt to oil, clean adjust or repair any machine while it is running. Do not attempt to perform any of these tasks unless you are properly trained and authorized to do so.
  • Never disable or damage safety devices on machines.
  • Never leave a machine running unattended.
  • It is your duty to inform the shop manager or a board member of any equipment that has had its safety features disabled or damaged.
  • Always keep hands, hair, feet and clothing clear of all moving machinery. Loose fitting clothing such as baggy sweatshirts, ties or long sleeved shirts with open cuffs are not allowed within 10 feet of any running machine.
  • Always deburr sharp edges of freshly cut stock. This includes any pieces of stock that is going into the rack. This will help eliminate personal injury from sharp jagged edges.
  • Never work at a pace that you are not comfortable with as rushing could lead to mistakes and injuries.
  • Keep the floors clean of oil, grease or other liquids. In the event of a spill stop all work in that area until it has been safely cleaned up.
  • All hazardous materials need written permission to be brought in and used at the makerspace. A list of already approved hazardous materials will be posted in the shop area.
  • Please stop all work with enough time to clean up any messes that you have made and to return the shop area you are working back to the state it was in before you arrived or cleaner.
  • If at any time you discover any of the equipment, machinery and/or tools are not functioning properly stop using the malfunctioning equipment immediately and contact the shop manager or a board member. Contact information for the relevant parties will be posted in various locations throughout the makerspace.

Electronics, Computing and Network

  • You agree that when using any device or network connection owned by Kentucky Movers and Makers you will not:
  • Use the services in connection with any contests, pyramid schemes, chain letters, sending spam, or sending unsolicited messages of any kind.
  • Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others.
  • Publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, obscene, indecent or unlawful material or information.
  • Upload, or otherwise make available, files that contain images, photographs, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws, including, but not limited to copyright or trademark laws unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consent to do the same.
  • Upload files that contain viruses, Trojan Horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another’s computer or property of another.
  • Download any file(s) that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally reproduced, displayed, performed, and/or distributed in such manner.
  • Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the Services.
  • Violate any code of conduct or other guidelines, which may be applicable for any particular Service.
  • Harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including email addresses, without the authorization or consent of the disclosing party.
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations by creating a false identity for the purpose of misleading others.

Personal Tools, Equipment and Materials

  • Personal use tools and materials are allowed to be brought into the makerspace. Any personal tools must be checked by shop staff to ensure they don’t violate any safety rules.
  • All personal tools should be clearly labeled with your name and email address or phone number.
  • Personal use tools, equipment or materials may not be used by any other member without the express permission of the owner.
  • Any and all personal use tools and materials must leave with the owner unless otherwise permitted or secured in a private storage location.
  • Kentucky Movers and Makers is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal use tools, equipment or materials.

Membership Agreement

Welcome to Kentucky Movers and Makers Membership Agreement

Hi, we’re Kentucky Movers and Makers. We are happy to have you and look forward to Learning and building things with you in the future. The following policies and conditions to being a member are not in any way meant to stifle creativity or diminish anyone’s right to enjoy the space. Quite the opposite actually, by setting up clear rules we hope to ensure that everyone gets to fully enjoy all that Kentucky Movers and Makers has to offer.

Kentucky Movers and Makers agrees to provide and the Member competent instruction by qualified personnel trained in the procedures and traditions of such activities.

The Member acknowledges and agrees as follows:

1. Kentucky Movers and Makers or any party designated by Kentucky Movers and Makers may photograph or film me while I attend the premises of Kentucky Movers and Makers and use of all such photos, video footage and/or video streaming for promotion, sales, publicity and advertising purposes for all media, including, but not limited to, the internet. 2. The required physical exertion of classes / use of equipment may be strenuous and cause physical injury, and I am fully aware of the risks and hazards involved. I hereby represent that I am physically fit to receive and participate in the prescribed course of instruction / use of equipment. I acknowledge that I have been advised to consult with a physician prior to and regarding my participation in the classes or use of equipment to confirm that I have no medical condition which would affect my full participation in the classes or use of equipment. 3. All users of the facilities at Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation are responsible for his or her own safety. In consideration of my being permitted to participate in the classes and use of equipment, I for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors, assigns and anyone else who may claim on my behalf hereby waive any and all claims, liability and damages I may now or in the future have against Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, its directors, officers, instructors and staff and all persons acting under its authority and their respective heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns, arising by any means whatsoever, including, but not limited to death, injury, damages to or loss to my person or property of any kind whatsoever in connection with my participation in the classes or use of equipment. 4. I will hold harmless and indemnify Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, its directors, officers, instructors and staff and all persons acting under its authority and their respective heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns from all liability for any damage or injury to the property or persons of any third party resulting from my involvement in or presence during any of the classes. 5. I will comply with all the policies, rules and regulations of Kentucky Movers and Makers concerning the use of the premises and the machinery and equipment.

6. In addition to any rights and remedies it may otherwise have, Kentucky Movers and Makers may terminate this Agreement immediately if I engage in any activity that poses a significant risk of harm to myself or others or the equipment I am using.

7. This Agreement can be cancelled at the end of the contract term. Upon notification of a cancellation request, members will have an active membership until the end of the current contract term. Refunds for previous contract terms will not be honored. Requests for cancellation must be made in person at 130 North Seminary or by email at rpadgett@westcentralky.com. Please Initial .

8. Kentucky Movers and Makers is committed to protecting the privacy of our customer’s personal information. We make every effort to ensure that the information you share with us is recorded accurately, retained securely and used only according to your wishes. We collect personal details necessary to communicate with you, and manage our ongoing business relationship with you. No personal information will be shared at any time..

9. All materials and projects stored at Kentucky Movers and Makers by members must be labeled to include name, phone number, and projected move date. Non- or partially labeled material or projects may be removed and disposed of without liability by Kentucky Movers and Makers staff. Kentucky Movers and Makers is not responsible for lost or damaged member property.

10. I agree to cover the cost of the damages to the facilities, equipment, other member's property, and injury to other members associated with my use of the equipment. Costs may include but are not limited to loss of income to Kentucky Movers and Makers, equipment costs, facilities repairs, and labor.

11. I agree to comply with all relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations relating to the use of machinery and equipment. Failure to do so may result in immediate membership termination and/or legal ramifications.

12. I understand my rights and obligations as stated above. I confirm that I am the full age of eighteen years (unless otherwise indicated) and that I have read and understood this release and waiver of liability and I am aware that by signing this Agreement I am waiving certain legal rights, including the right to claim damages which I or my heirs, executors, administrators, successors or assigns may have.
